First, you as the stunning bride-to-be need to find the perfect dress—the dress you’ll deem to be ‘the one.’ After finding your dress, you’ll need to fit into it. That’s where this blog comes in. It’s all about a healthy fit. A word of advice to you: grab your fiancé because he (or she) may want to join you on the journey to a tighter body in preparation for the big day. The groom may want to fit better in his tux or the bride may want a sleeker fit in her dress too! Additionally, working out as a couple can be a fun few dates spent together.
Dress Workouts: Take It Outside
Way too many people nowadays think going to the gym is the only way to lose weight, and it’s not. Being active in any way and breaking a sweat will help with overall health and weight loss. Going for a daily walk or daily run can clear your mind as well as help you lose weight. If you choose to bring your future spouse along, we guarantee it would be more enjoyable just because you’re not doing it alone. Maybe a healthy running competition will arise and push both of you farther than your original goals. If running isn’t your thing, you can sight-see and burn calories at the same time. Explore some local trails. If you don’t know any places, check Meetup.com and find local meetup groups who get together. If you’re near a beach, you may luck out with some ultimate frisbee or volleyball.
Dress Workouts: Endless Indoor Options
If it’s too hot outside because you live in Florida like us, there are plenty of indoor options to pursue. If you enjoy a challenge, head to your nearest indoor rock climbing walls. Be sure to stretch your forearms, arms, and back because you will use every muscle you have. We advise bringing your regular gym attire. Also, flat soled shoes will help you reach new heights!
When it’s really hot outside, take yourself and your fiancé to the ice. Rent skates at your local rink and join in on a free skate session. If you have a lot of time before your big day, consider taking lessons. It’s a way to combine healthy exercise and race against the clock together.
Of course, strength training at the gym is a great option if you are already going regularly. Bring your fiancé along and coach him or her in what would work best for their goals. Teach them what you’re doing to shock their body into using new muscles and, of course, burning calories faster. If you go regularly, be sure to eat balanced meals before and after workouts to lean out your body properly.
What about taking classes? Sure they’re indoors, but they put you in a new setting. They allow you to try new group exercises as well as meet new people. So many classes exist that count towards exercising. There’s Zumba, reggae fit, kickboxing, Muay Thai, barre, pilates, dance, CrossFit, and boot camp just to name a few.
Go to your living room! We’re not talking about putting in the Taebo VHS from the mid-1990s, either. You can perform a type of exercise called Tabata from your living room floor. Tabata consists of “high-intensity bursts of exercise for 20 seconds with 10 seconds of rest between each session, for eight rounds.” (Source: The Knot) These exercises can be shaken up between planks, burpees, jumping jacks, pushups, sit-ups, crunches, or any other bodyweight exercise. The key is to hammer out as many reps as you can in a short time, then rest. The fitness intervals are what will speed up your metabolism and burn fat.
A few bonus tips we picked up along the way deal with, you guessed it, the kitchen. There’s a saying from the world of bodybuilding: “abs are made in the kitchen.” It’s true. Some exercises will help, but overall, tweaking your diet or changing it altogether can progress you much farther.
You don’t have to count every calorie. However, fitness apps such as MyFitnessPal can help you keep your macronutrients (protein, carbs, and fats) in line for a regular, balanced diet leading up to your big day (and beyond).
If you’re a morning person and rise with energy, have a cup of coffee first and nothing else. Consider doing fasted cardio. The basic trick behind fasted cardio is that your body will be in need of energy to perform. Since there’s no food in your stomach, your body will turn to the already stored fat and burn it for energy.
The key to success is discipline. You must remain disciplined to get through all your workouts until you reach your desired goals! It may be hard in the beginning and annoying as time goes on. However, it will absolutely be worth it, in the end, seeing yourself in those photographs!
